The process of film making

29th Feb 2012

Finally I'm getting a breather.. After 6 was just breathing time. I've been slogging for a week on my storyboard. It was super fun! I was actually anticipating it after the script, but at the same time I was terrified as to how I would visualize it. Only a few out of a hundred shots were clear to me in the start. I knew it would be harder to draw it than to write it, I just didn't know how hard. On the way I discovered ways of how staging plays such an important role. At every stage I asked myself what I was trying to convey in every frame of my board. I got stuck at a point during my climax, and I pushed myself so hard over a few hours that my brains fried, and the creative juices did not flow! So I took an off that night and went to sleep. The next morning I cracked it and things were back in track. The schedule was so screwed by then. I was 4 days late, and had eaten time from my color script. But today I finished the animatic's first draft. I showed it to my 2 mentors, who gave me a few changes which I'll do tonight itself. I made a new schedule and hopefully I won't delay it any further and things will run on time. There are no more breathers. No saturdays or sundays, no film club and no HiVE for me anymore. This is it. But I'm truly enjoying the process of film making. I don't think I can get a high on anything else as much as I do on this.

Will post the animatic here after the changes. So long! :D Here's a peak from the first scene!.

In the mood for love

Occassionally when En and I are in a fun mood a funny conversation comes up that lightens me up for the rest of the day. The other day Ishan was talking about this film - 'In the mood for love'. En was jolly and overheard, so he goes like this:

Overnight

So finally I got the courage to upload our pixilation clip - the one we'd done with PJ (Prosenjit Ganguly). I wasn't very happy with it, but hey - we had about 14 hours to come up with it!
Enjoy!

Wiped

So I was finally able to compress the video! I was hoping i could compile some sneak peaks before really releasing this film, but I'm short of time. So enjoy, and watch in HD full screen!

'Wiped' wins first place!

hello blog and its few readers!!

I'm so sorry I haven't been updating this for over 2 weeks, but I've JAM PACKED participating in our annual fest Quasar. Tapan Agarwal and I have been making our film named 'Wiped'. You work your ass off for a week. Your whole body clock goes for a toss, and the only meal you have is dinner at 2am; and you think "Hey, I have never worked so much in my life!" and when its over you feel accomplishment that you've been waiting for for what feels like A.LONG.TIME. And then, days later, you're stuck in a similar week that makes this one feel like a piece of cake.

Anywho, all that paid off, because I can announce some very good news now! Our film won first place at the short film competition Mov(I)e It at QSR'12!! The prize was an internship with Trends Ads, Bangalore for one ad film from pre-production to post-production.(neither of us are gonna take it coz we're not film students). We won the best film, best editing, best sound, and also the special audience award! Watch out for the film upload soon. Right now its 2.3GB in size and I still need to figure out a way to compress it without compromising on quality!

See you guys! :)

This blog is a collection of (some of) my work, the art I do for fun, my inspirations and the sweat that goes into making animated films. Enjoy!
